Chuck Lapointe, at just 28 years old has managed to become one of the biggest media influencers in Canada through his online communities Mtl Blog and Narcity Media. He's been creating websites since he was just 12 years old, and has a strong passion for online marketing and advertising.
Since the company has officially launched in 2013, they've gained over 600,000 social followers and 4 million monthly viewers. These numbers keep growing and its no surprise as to why - they are the "go to" blog for anything lifestyle-related in Montreal and now, Narcity Media is expanding to become the biggest creative content platform in the world! Narcity Media happened in early 2015, shortly after visiting Toronto on business for a few weeks. It's the result of regrouping our properties (Narcity.com and Mtlblog.com) and giving a clearer direction to our company and clients. Mostly the switch came out of necessity of showcasing that we are more than just a blog, we also create custom sponsored content campaigns that drive amazing results. The transition really happened when we renamed from Mtl Blog to Narcity Media Inc. and brought everything under the same umbrella earlier this year.
Narcity means you are narcissistic for your city. It is a multi-cultural and multi-city brand that strives to connect people to their city through influential content and memorable experiences.

My biggest struggle was definitely coping with the transition from “blog” to “media business”. Identifying problems and finding solutions (to literally everything) when your business hits that critical point is definitely a struggle but has probably been the most important learning period in my life, and might be for any starting entrepreneur. It’s like a phase you need to go through. You come out stronger though.
We hit milestones pretty much every month these days, but I’d say last month marked a particular milestone where we hit our biggest month ever in terms of traffic. In June 2016, we reached 4 million Canadians aged from 18 - 34 years across our network (5 cities).
Self-motivation is pretty key if you’re an entrepreneur. I stay motivated by constantly reflecting and hustling to reach my end goal and living life the best I can every day. When you’re under a lot of stress, eating healthy and exercising has definitely helped keep my focus.
I’d like to have a foothold in every major city internationally. I want to create a brand that people recognize across all cities. We want people to use our content and services whenever they travel or move to another city to experience the most of what their city has to offer.
When someone thinks, “I feel like eating tacos tonight. I want CHEAP tacos that taste amazing in my mouth. Where should I go?”.
We will have that answer for you, in every city.
I’d say video is our next big challenge. In the age where Facebook is sending less and less traffic to publishers and bigger priority is given to videos in your Newsfeed, you’re kind of forced into it to stay relevant.
We’ve been doing a few videos here and there across Canada, and so far, have seen great results. We’re looking forward to developing our video game plan even further.
Stop talking about it, and start doing it. I have too many people approach me with great ideas but never execute anything because they don’t know where to start.
The best way is to start small, with a great idea, put everything you have into it, and if it fails, it fails. From my experience, however, and many others, when you completely immerse yourself in something and truly believe in what you’re doing, the universe will conspire to make it happen.
