Inside The World Of Diary Of A Social Gal
The bold, beautiful, vivacious, Jennifer “Jenn” Campbell. You've seen her cover Montreal's most prestigious and exciting events, you've flipped through her oversized glossy luxury lifestyle / social magazine, Diary of a Social Gal (proudly launched five years ago to great acclaim), and, if you've had the chance to meet her live, then you know that the homegrown McGill law and Honours English grad turned journo / publisher / editor / host, doesn’t take herself too seriously, and is full of life, laughs, and positive energy (or rather, Jennergy lol).
Goss Club recently sat down with the fabulous social / entertainment queen (who, FYI has interviewed the likes of academy award-winning French actress Juliette Binoche, Cirque du Soleil topman Guy Laliberté, celebutantes / entrepreurs Nicole Ritchie and Paris Hilton, and legendary king of talkTV Larry King, while routinely contributing to myriad high-profile, media sites and publications including the country’s best selling celebrity mag, Hello! Canada, and our own leading English daily, The Montreal Gazette), to find out what drives her, inspires her, and what's next on the aJENNda.
What advice would you give young women beginning in their media journeys?
I would encourage them to identify the media outlets that inspire as either a dream career destination or enlightening, experiential part of the journey, and then advise that they work hard to secure a foot in the door, be it via an internship, or entry level position. While they might have one dream spot in mind, the reality check is that might not work out, so best to pursue numerous options. I would also encourage them to be creative with their CVs and applications too, careful to itemize what value they could bring to the outlet. Standing out from the pack, and the ability to bring value, is always essential, in my humble.
What are some future projects and collaboration on the horizon for Diary?
I constantly joke that I'm torn between “conquering and escaping the world,” but when in conquer mode, there's an endless stream of inspirations and ideas for future collaborations and projects! We're currently looking at some media partnerships that are especially intriguing, and would take the brand to another level. Exciting stuff! Unfortunately, I can't reveal more now as it's early days, but I'll keep you posted! ;)
What does it mean for you to "Be Gossy"?
When assuming any leadership position, what's crucial to me is to lead by example and with respect, and “do unto others”, because, at the end of the day, it's about teamwork. As they say, teamwork makes the dream work! ;)
And with that, my spirited dinner mate was off in a haze of stylish exuberance, to pen the next article, rock the next fab collab, and launch the seventh edition of the magazine, scheduled for release this December, at one of the brand’s now famously celebratory Social Gal Soirees. I’m guessing she’s in Conquer mode! ;)
