There comes a moment in every woman’s life when the role she has played for everyone else can no longer contain who she is becoming. For Meg Vellejos McCoy, that moment is now. For more than two decades, Meg has guided people through some of the most profound seasons of their lives. Long before she became an ordained spiritual minister, mentor, artist, musician, or founder, she was the person people instinctively sought when they needed wisdom, perspective, or simply someone capable of sitting beside them in uncertainty.

People arrived at her door looking for answers. Sometimes they came seeking healing. Sometimes they came searching for clarity. More often than not, they came because Meg possessed something increasingly rare in today’s world: the ability to witness another human being exactly as they were without trying to change them. What began as a natural gift slowly evolved into a life’s work.

Over the years, Meg built a thriving practice, mentored hundreds of people, created educational programs, released seven music albums, and established herself as a respected guide in the world of personal transformation. Yet while she was helping others navigate their evolution, a quieter transformation was taking place within her own life.

Today, as she prepares to begin a new chapter in Hawaii alongside her husband Charley, Meg stands at the threshold of one of the most significant periods of reinvention she has ever experienced. And perhaps for the first time, the story is no longer about who she can help become. It is about who she is becoming.

“I feel like I’ve been hiding on the wind a little bit,” she reflects. “And I’m beginning to be radiant.”

The path toward that radiance was anything but straightforward. Raised within a childhood marked by instability, constant movement, and the experience of existing between multiple identities, Meg learned early how to adapt. With Indigenous, Afro-Caribbean, Latino, Celtic, and mixed ancestral roots, she often found herself belonging everywhere and nowhere at the same time. Rather than finding identity through certainty, she learned to find it through creation. Art became one of the first places she discovered herself.

Long before she facilitated retreats, she painted. Long before she guided others through transformation, she immersed herself in the creative process. Art was never simply a hobby or a pastime. It became a sanctuary. A language. A way of making sense of a world that often felt fragmented. In 2015, that devotion deepened into a daily painting practice that would ultimately become one of the defining disciplines of her life.

For more than eight years, Meg completed a painting every single day. Not most days. Every day. Divorce. Illness. Travel. Grief. Heartbreak. Major life transitions. No matter what was happening around her, the practice remained. By the time she completed more than 2,700 consecutive paintings, she began to recognize something unexpected. As her artistic voice became bolder, her personal voice emerged alongside it. The woman who had spent years caring for everyone else was finally learning how to fully express herself.

That evolution accelerated following the collapse of her first marriage. After years of emotional hardship, health challenges, and repeated miscarriages, Meg found herself facing a painful ending she never anticipated. Yet what appeared to be loss ultimately became liberation. Because she had spent years building her own work, she was able to stand firmly on her own feet when everything else fell apart. For the first time, she chose herself.

A year later, she met Charley. Their relationship unfolded differently than most modern love stories. Rather than rushing toward intimacy, they spent months cultivating friendship, trust, and emotional safety. What emerged was a partnership rooted not in urgency, but in intention. “It felt elegantly orchestrated,” she says. Years later, she still describes him as her soulmate. Yet another profound chapter awaited.

After a decade of trying to conceive and enduring repeated pregnancy loss, Meg underwent a hysterectomy. What doctors discovered was startling. Her womb had been overtaken by fibroid growth, while a large tumor sat encased within a cyst on one ovary. The surgery marked the end of one dream. But it also became the beginning of another. Looking back, Meg describes the experience as one of the greatest initiations of her life. For the first time, she was no longer carrying the weight of who she thought she needed to be. She was being invited into a deeper relationship with herself.

“My energy was suddenly my own,” she says. “My life was suddenly my own.” The woman who had spent decades giving was finally learning how to receive. To be supported. To be resourced. To be held. The shift changed everything. She invested in mentorship. Expanded her vision. Began building from a place of sustainability rather than sacrifice. Most importantly, she started questioning a belief she had carried for much of her life—that being needed was the same thing as being called. “Not everyone is asking for my help,” she says. “And there’s a difference.”

That realization now sits at the center of her work. Today, Meg’s practice is evolving beyond traditional spiritual direction into something more expansive and deeply imaginative.
