McLeod Associates Takes over the Ontario Real Estate Market
Meet our newest Member, Shae McLeod of McLeod Associates. She is a real estate investor in Ontario and Alberta, as well an avid business woman who has generated millions in sales through her various real estate projects and brand. A graduate of Mohawk College Legal Administration Program and Niagara College Community and Justice Services Program, she worked in the legal field for over fourteen years working in criminal, personal injury, civil and insurance defence and family law. Her passion for real estate and investing led her to focus her career as a Realtor. She joined Keller Williams and has since grown her own team to over ten agents under the McLeod & Associates banner.
What has been one of the biggest challenges you surmounted in this industry?
Being a young, black attractive businesswomen has been my biggest challenge. There were times where clients did not take me seriously and judged based off looks. (Black female Realtors leading teams in Ontario are slim to none – I do not know of any female Real Estate Teams in Ontario with a black lead). My team has continued to prove this common misconception wrong – we are brains & beauty, and our exterior does not define our success, experience or knowledge. We work hard, are committed to personal growth, and excellence and have created a fabulous reputation that is a testament to that.
We believe everything in life stems from the inside out. Our commitment to self-love, self-discipline & strong values, helps us provide an unmatched working with a realtor experience that has revitalized our client’s industry standards. We are relentless in our goal of redefining the importance & difference that working with a dedicated professional provides.
What advice would you give a younger version of yourself, or someone who is joining the industry?
If you have a dream or a goal that only you can see, chase it and don’t give up. There will be people you encounter on your journey that won’t support you or your vision, but they don’t matter. Chase it anyways. Be relentless. Manifestation is real and if you can see your future self and everything you will accomplish – you can achieve it.
Stay away from energy drainers. People who always find a reason to be anything but happy. They will suck the passion out of your soul and keep you held back. Don’t feel guilty for leaving people or situations behind that don’t serve your higher purpose. Not everyone is meant to walk with you on the journey of becoming your best self but the ones who are meant to be in your life will come and grow with you and stay.
Don’t ever underestimate the power and difference being your authentic self can have on any business. In a world where everyone is striving to be the same – be different – be you! That’s what matters most. YOU are your biggest asset.
Stop working 9-5 towards someone else’s dream and start chasing your own. Whatever you do that brings you great happiness and makes you feel the sunlight from the inside out, chase that.
What is your 5-10 year vision? What do you do weekly to bring this to life?
I’m very big on manifestation, vision boards and daily and yearly goal setting and review. Every week I meet with each of my agents and review the goals they’ve set; I check in with them mid-week and hold them accountable. We also had a team event where we made our vision boards for 2022 and shared everything on the boards with each other. We hold each other accountable for all the goals we have set and never fail to lend a hand or offer advice or help to anyone who is in need. I reward my agents when goals are achieved, Spa retreats, fancy dinners, Luxury Muskoka Cottage Weekends and Wine Tours.
My long-term vision is to branch off and become full-service by providing other services in my business to include Property Management, Consulting & Staging.
What does success represent to you?
Success to me means using my gifts I was put on this earth to share to make an impact and inspire others to be their best self. Success means providing opportunities to change lives; to demonstrate for anyone who has had a rough life that your past doesn’t dictate your future. Success means leading by example and providing opportunities, mentorship, and leadership to change the lives of not just clients but my agents as well. Success is creating a lifestyle where my impact on the lives I touch provide an income and allow me to lead a life doing only things I’m passionate about.
How do you make space for balance in your day to day life?
I define work-life balance by being in a place where I’m inspired every morning to get out of bed and chase new goals. Work life balance for me involves prioritizing things that matter to me, like my family, singing and recording music, riding horses, time at the cottage in nature, riding dirt bikes, playing guitar or self-care baths with a great book and meditation. I carve out “me time” multiple times on a weekly business where I’m unavailable. It’s my time to be selfish and focus on selfcare and things that energize me so I can show up every day as the best version of myself for my clients and my team.
What do you want to be remembered for?
I want to be remembered as the woman whose energy, zest for life and passion for turning my dreams into reality created a movement and inspired young women and entrepreneurs to live their best life. I want to be remembered as the women who became everything, I was told I didn’t have the potential to be. I want to be remembered as the women whose perseverance, energy and presence inspired others to take risks and chase the dreams that only they can see. I want to be the women who reminded others to never settle for anything less than your best in all areas of life.
