Dr Amanda Fanous, MD

Dr. Amanda Fanous completed both her medical school and surgical residency in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at McGill University. She is certified by the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. This allowed her to have a full appreciation of the complex anatomy of the face and neck before fine-tuning her training in Paris, France. There, she was accepted for a highly competitive fellowship in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. Dr. Amanda Fanous has written numerous publications and has presented at national and international conferences.

Dr Ashley Roxanne, MD

Dr. Ashley Roxanne Peterson, makes history as the youngest Black female to graduate as an osteopathic physician in America. Inspired by Dr. Andrew Taylor Still, American School of Osteopathy founder as well as knowledge about her family history, Peterson began studying at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine at the age of 19. In 2019 she commenced her family medicine residency at Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, GA. “One If the biggest things you can do for your health is to take accountability, by doing some preventative things, such as exercise, lowering your stress levels, taking your medication, vaccines and having screenings like colonoscopies,” Peterson said.

Amber Leis, MD, FACS

Dr. Amber Leis is an Associate Professor, UCI School of Medicine, Department of Plastic Surgery, where she also serves as Program Director for the Plastic Surgery Resident Training Program. Dr. Leis earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology from Oregon State University Honors College, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude. She obtained her medical degree at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where she was honored for her commitment to education with the Nathans Distinguished Service for Mentorship and Teaching. She went on to complete a six year residency in plastic surgery at Loma Linda University, and an additional fellowship of one year in Orthopaedic Hand Surgery at the University of Southern California, Keck School of Medicine. At Keck, she worked with leaders in the field of microsurgical reconstruction of complex congenital and traumatic injuries of the upper extremity.

Dr Leis is also affiliated with Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) where she specializes in congenital hand surgery and pediatric brachial plexus injuries. Dr. Leis provides adult reconstructive care for US Veterans at Veterans Affairs Hospital, Long Beach, California and throughout UCI Health clinical practices in Orange County, CA – Costa Mesa, Orange and Tustin.

Dr Alyssa Cole, MD

Dr. Cole is a physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist who posts about fitness, fashion, and food. Dr. Alyssa Cole is a physical medicine and rehabilitation physician, having recently finished her PM&R residency training in Philadelphia. She is now specializing in cancer rehabilitation as the city’s first cancer rehabilitation fellow physician. Back in medical school, Dr. Cole learned about the field after completing a preceptorship at a rehabilitation hospital. “As an osteopathic physician I have a strong understanding of anatomy, the musculoskeletal system, and the nervous system. Rehabilitation allows me to combine these interests in order to help patients regain their quality of life.” Initially, she did not know about the field of physical medicine and rehabilitation. She told her family how she wished she could be the physician overseeing the medical management of patients in therapy. It was that moment when her father turned to her and said, “you’re talking about physiatry.” It turned out that before she was born, her father was a research assistant for a physiatrist and so, in a way, Dr. Cole thought, “maybe it was embedded in my DNA… meant to be.”

Dr Ashley Amalfi, MD

Dr. Ashley Amalfi, a plastic surgeon who was born and raised in Rochester, NY, joined the Quatela Center in 2019. She graduated in three years Summa Cum Laude from the George Washington University with a B.A. in Fine Arts and Art History, after which she pursued her Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Rochester’s School of Medicine and Dentistry. After graduation, she matched into a competitive integrated residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Southern Illinois University in Springfield, Illinois. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Plastic Surgery, and scored in the 93rd percentile overall amongst her peers on her Board Certification Exam.

Charis Chambers, MD

AKA the period doctor. Dr. Charis Chambers also known as The Period Doctor is an OB/GYN with fellowship training in Pediatric & Adolescent Gynecology. She is a speaker, lover of God, medicine, and most of all, a person who is changing the cycle. Dr. Charis Chambers was born in Nashville, Tennessee to Crandall and Charlette Chambers. She grew up in a variety of places including Annapolis, MD; Hendersonville, TN; and eventually Phenix City, AL where she attended middle and high school. Her love for shattering stereotypes began in high school where Charis was president of the science club, homecomingqueen, salutatorian, and captain of her school’s national champion cheer team.

She states “we’re in a very challenging field and it’s changed a lot in the past 20 years, in a way that doesn’t necessarily always favor physicians. It’s easy to get burnt out. Comedy helps a lot!
